Placenta pasta – yumo right? Long before I had kids I blogged. About celebrities. I even entered the “I’m a Blogger Get Me Out of Here” contest where I made it to the final round. The prize was going to Costa Rica for the finale of “I’M a Celebrity Get Me Outta Here.” The amazing Vera Sweeney from I’m Not Obsessed and Lady and the Blog ended up winning, but I still got to make this awesome video.
The challenge was to make a video that was “looking your food in the face.” Basically the goal was to gross people out. Well remember, my SIL who had kids at the time and inspired my crunchiness, actually ate her placenta. So naturally, I whipped up some placenta pasta. It is so fun to watch this. I was nervous to make this video for NBC. I wanted to nail it and get the Dave Matthews concert that night too (which was awesome BTW).
I love that even before kids, I was speaking up for something so taboo. Now I do eat red meat (it was necessary during pregnancy, my body craved it till I caved) and I also have no shame eating placenta. Now the likes of Kim Kardashian and January Jones are in the news for consuming their placenta so it’s no big deal, but 5 years ago, this was not a thing.
Consuming the placenta can:
Help to balance your hormones
Replenish depleted iron levels
Assist the uterus to return to its pre-pregnancy state
Reduce post-natal bleeding
Increase milk production – this has been proven in a study
Make for a happier, more enjoyable post-natal period
Increase your energy levels
